Mooiplaas Wine Estate Houmoed Bushvine Chenin Blanc is a magnificent, deeply complex, and expressive white wine produced in the historic Bottelary Hills ward of Stellenbosch, South Africa. Mooiplaas Wine Estate is renowned for its commitment to environmental conservation and its magnificent, high-altitude bush vine sites. Crafted from a single, historic block of dry-farmed bush vines planted in 1972, this benchmark Chenin Blanc embodies the pinnacle of Stellenbosch viticulture, offering an impressive blend of old-vine intensity, rich texture, and brilliant mineral freshness.. Why You'll Love It. This wine stands out for its remarkable concentration, multi-layered aromatic complexity, and vibrant vitality. Grown in ancient weathered granite soils on cool, sea-facing slopes that absorb refreshing afternoon sea breezes, the un-trellised bush vines yield small, intensely flavourful berries. Whole-bunch pressed and matured carefully in French oak barrels, it delivers an exquisite profile of ripe yellow peach, baked apple, wild honey, and toasted almonds, balanced by a fine, mouth-watering line of natural acidity.. Vineyard & Production. The grapes are hand-harvested from the single Houmoed vineyard block during the cool early morning hours to preserve pure fruit character and acidity. Upon arrival at the cellar, whole bunches are gently pressed, and the unclarified juice is transferred directly to French oak barrels (a combination of new and older wood) for spontaneous fermentation using natural yeasts. The wine matures on its fine lees for nine months with light stirring to build luxurious mid-palate creaminess and textural length before gentle filtration and bottling.. Tasting Notes. In the glass, it displays a brilliant, deep straw-gold colour with bright green reflections. The nose is rich, complex, and highly expressive, opening with alluring aromas of ripe yellow peach, poached pear, and Meyer lemon curd, interwoven with delicate nuances of wild orange blossom honey, toasted brioche, and wet stone minerality. On the palate, it is full-bodied, unctuous, and beautifully defined, delivering succulent orchard and stone fruit flavours supported by a crisp, refreshing beam of acidity that extends into a long, savoury, and memorable finish.. Perfect Pairings. With its rich texture, vibrant acidity, and subtle wood spice, this old-vine Chenin Blanc is an exceptional partner for sophisticated dining.
