Produttori Vini Manduria Lirica Primitivo di Manduria is a rich, opulent, and deeply expressive red wine produced in the sun-soaked region of Apulia in southern Italy. Crafted by Produttori Vini Manduria, the oldest wine-making cooperative in Apulia, this bottling celebrates the signature grape variety of Manduria, where Primitivo achieves its ultimate expression. Sourced from mature vines grown near the Ionian Sea, it offers an authentic, full-bodied profile filled with sun-ripened dark fruit, warm Mediterranean herbs, and enticing oak spice.. Why You'll Love It. This wine stands out for its luscious depth, velvety mouthfeel, and harmonious balance between power and freshness. Benefiting from intense southern sunshine tempered by maritime breezes, the grapes reach exceptional ripeness while retaining essential balance. Aged carefully in French oak casks, it delivers an indulgent array of dark plum compote, sweet liquorice, and chocolate nuances, held together by supple tannins that make it immediately enticing and deeply satisfying.. Vineyard & Production. The grapes are hand-harvested from mature Primitivo vines cultivated on red, clay-rich soils known as terra rossa over a limestone base. Following careful sorting at the winery, the fruit undergoes temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel vats with extended maceration to extract rich colour, fruit intensity, and soft tannins. The wine then matures for around six months in large French oak casks, allowing its broad structure to soften and gain complex spice elements before bottling and resting prior to release.. Tasting Notes. In the glass, it presents an intense, dark ruby-red colour with garnet reflections. The nose is rich, warm, and inviting, bursting with aromas of ripe black cherries, dried plums, and blackberry jam, interwoven with notes of dark chocolate, vanilla, sweet tobacco, and dried Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, it is full-bodied, smooth, and expansive, delivering a wave of opulent dark fruit and spiced plum flavours framed by soft, rounded tannins and a long, warming, lingering finish.. Perfect Pairings. With its broad structure, sweet dark fruit core, and warm spice notes, this Primitivo di Manduria is an exceptional partner for hearty dishes and rich Italian cuisine. It pairs magnificently with slow-cooked beef ragù over pappardelle, roasted leg of lamb, grilled ribeye steak, and braised pork shanks.
