Why You'll Love It. This is authentic Jumilla Monastrell from Bodegas Juan Gil, a family estate that has been producing wine in Jumilla since the early 20th century. The 40-year-old bush vines grow on sandy, chalky, rocky soil at 700m elevation, creating wines with remarkable concentration and character. With 4 months in French and American oak and certified organic viticulture, this wine offers exceptional quality and hedonistic fruit at outstanding value. Perfect for those who like their wines on the generous side.. Meet the Producer. The Gil family have been producers in Jumilla since the early 20th century. Bodegas Juan Gil is dedicated to producing wines that authentically express the unique terroir of Jumilla, with a focus on organic viticulture and the indigenous Monastrell grape.. Production. Grapes come from 40-year-old bush vines at 700 metres above sea level to the north-east of Jumilla, on sandy, chalky, rocky soil. The grapes were hand-harvested and fermented in stainless steel. The wine was aged in French and American oak for around 4 months to add complexity while preserving the vibrant fruit character.. Tasting Notes. The nose has rich plum and bramble characters, with delicate vanilla spice and cedar. The palate has layers of ripe fruit, blackcurrant, blackberry, spicy plum and cherry, and fine tannins balanced by bright acidity.
