A true celebration wine.. Meet the Producer. Founded in 1979 by Peter Lehmann, the winery was born out of a promise to support Barossa grape growers during a time of hardship. Today, Peter Lehmann Wines continues that legacy — championing the region's growers, celebrating its heritage, and crafting wines that express the full character and warmth of the Barossa Valley.. Production. Fruit for The Black Queen is sourced from four long-term growers — Schrapel, Hampel, Gladigau, and Grope — in the renowned Ebenezer and Light Pass districts. Grapes are chosen for their silky tannins and sweet red-berry fruit. After a 10-day fermentation on skins, the wine is pressed, clarified, and matured for 12 months in older French oak hogsheads. The base wine then undergoes secondary fermentation in bottle and is aged on yeast lees for 36 months. Upon disgorgement, a small addition of The King Vintage Port as expedition liqueur adds depth and a touch of festive richness.. Tasting Notes. Deep crimson with red and purple hues, The Black Queen exudes aromas of dark fruits, chocolate, vanilla, and Christmas cake. The palate is luscious and layered, showing notes of blackberry jam, satsuma plum, and sweet perfumed oak, framed by a savoury dark-chocolate backbone. Fine bubbles and a soft mousse lend elegance and lift to the wine's generous fruit and texture.. Perfect Pairings.
