Here's a wine with a story. Nittardi, in Chianti Classico, was once owned by Michelangelo, who sent its wine to the Pope in Rome. Today the Canali-Femfert family run the estate and farm it organically. Since 1981 they've asked a different artist to design the label each year, with names like Yoko Ono and Günter Grass on the list. Vigna Doghessa is a single vineyard high up in Castellina in Chianti. The 2022 is 100% Sangiovese, has a vibrant ruby hue with intense aromas of cherries, violets, and notes of herbs and spices. On the palate, it offers rounded tannins and a lasting finish. This structured yet silky wine pairs beautifully with dishes like steak, wild boar ragù or aged pecorino. Best served at 16°C.
