Koeman's Barcelona years were defined by that sweeper-libero role in Cruyff's Total Football framework — a defender who could build play from deep, press high up the pitch when the system demanded and contribute goals from set-pieces at a rate that most attackers could not match. He won four consecutive La Liga titles between 1991 and 1994 alongside that European Cup, making him central to the most successful period in the club's modern history. His subsequent return as manager was a different story, but as a player, he was a Dream Team cornerstone.
