The Honka 200 is the one for people who want a sauna that looks like it has always been there. Solid 70 mm logs — not panels, not cladding — with a covered porch at the front and a glass door into a square 2 × 2 m hot room. Available in black, grey or natural spruce, with slatted privacy screens either side of the porch. Why 70 mm logs matter Most garden saunas are built from 42 mm tongue-and-groove board. This one is 70 mm solid log, and the difference is thermal mass: thicker timber takes a little longer to come up to temperature and then holds it far more steadily, because the walls themselves are storing heat rather than just containing it. In practice that means the temperature does not swing every time the heater cycles or someone opens the door. It is the same reason traditional Finnish saunas were built from heavy log rather than thin board — and it is why a cabin like this feels different to sit in. The covered porch adds a metre of depth for the cooling-off round, sheltered from the rain. At 8.2 m³ take the 8 kW. Needs a dedicated circuit installed by a qualified electrician; budget £400–£1,200 for a garden supply on top of the heater. Wood-fired — a Harvia M-series stove. No electrics at all, a real fire, and the traditional way to run a cabin like this. We fit the flue on installation day. Where to put it A cabin like this is a building, not a piece of garden furniture, so it is worth thinking about placement before delivery day rather than after. Orientation. Point the glazing at whatever you actually want to look at — and preferably away from a neighbour's windows. South-facing glass gains useful warmth in winter but can make the room uncomfortably bright on a summer evening; west-facing catches the sunset, which for most people is when a sauna gets used. Clearance. Leave at least 300 mm behind and to the sides for air to circulate and for you to get round it with a paintbrush. Timber boxed tightly against a fence stays damp, and damp timber is what fails. Planning permission. Most garden saunas fall under permitted development, but there are exceptions for size, height, position relative to boundaries, and listed or conservation areas.
