Steam & Oak Saaren 280 Barrel Sauna — 4–6 Person with Covered Terrace - Nordic Spruce / Wood-fired — Harvia M series
Three hundred millimetres longer than the Saaren 250, and that is the whole point. The extra length turns a two-to-four person sauna into one that seats four to six — enough for a family, or for friends round after a cold swim — without taking up meaningfully more of the garden. At 2.8 m long and 2.05 m across it still slots down the side of a house or along a fence line. And like every Saaren barrel it arrives with a covered terrace at the front: its own benches, its own floor, under the same curved roof. That is where the cooling-off half of a sauna session actually happens, and it is the part most barrels leave you to solve yourself. A barrel heats faster than a square room of the same size. There are no cold corners for the heat to hide in, so 8.4 m³ comes up to temperature quickly and holds it once it is there. That is not styling — it is why the shape has lasted. Spruce or thermowood — your choice Nordic spruce is the traditional barrel timber: pale, clean-grained, and the reason a new barrel sauna looks the way it does. It is the more affordable build, and it needs treating and re-treating to stay looking new outdoors. Thermowood is timber kiln-treated at 180–220°C in a low-oxygen chamber. That is not a surface coating. It changes the wood itself, closing the cells so it absorbs far less moisture — which is what stops outdoor timber cupping, twisting and splitting through a British winter. No chemical preservatives are involved. It arrives a deep honey-brown and weathers to a stable silver. Choose your timber above. The benches follow the shell: alder with spruce, thermo-aspen with thermowood. Specification Capacity 4–6 people Total length 2800 mm (including terrace) External diameter 2050 mm Total height 2150 mm Interior 2100 mm sauna room + 570 mm covered terrace Heated volume approx. 8.4 m³ Staves / side walls 42 mm Front and back walls 28 mm Door Lockable wooden door with glass, 1600 × 590 mm Windows 2 × 670 × 300 mm fixed, or 670 × 375 mm opening Benches Alder (spruce build) or thermo-aspen (thermowood build) Roof Bitumen shingles — black, red, green or brown Delivery 1 pallet, 280 × 120 × 120 cm What is in the box Everything structural, including the terrace. No hidden extras to buy before you can build it: Barrel staves and end walls in your chosen timber Terrace with its own benches and floor Sauna benches Lockable wooden door with glass, and two windows Floor Bitumen roof shingles and fascia boards Foundation cradles Heater guard Stainless steel barrel bands and complete fixing kit Ventilation grids Step-by-step assembly instructions Run it on gas — no electrician, no cable across the garden This is the option almost nobody else offers, and for a lot of gardens it is the one that makes a sauna possible at all. A FinSteam gas heater runs on a standard propane bottle — the same sort you would use for a patio heater or a barbecue. No armoured cable, no trench across the lawn, no electrician quote you had not budgeted for. If your garden has no power at the far end, this is how you still get a sauna there. Pick a gas option above and we fit the flue and commission the heater on installation day. You do not need to arrange anything with anyone. Which gas option? Botnia 81 Our standard 8.1 kW gas heater. Everything you need to run the sauna. Aurora 81 The premium version of the same 8.1 kW heater — better finish and detailing. And then: safety pack, or without? With safety packrecommended Adds the Njord heat shield and the Halo guard rail. The heat shield lets the heater sit closer to the timber wall; the guard rail stops anyone brushing against the hot stones. If you have children, guests, or you are renting the sauna out, choose this one. Without safety pack Heater and stone cage only. Suits a private install where clearance is not tight. Every gas option includes the heater, the Orbis stone cage, and our fitting and commissioning. See the full gas heater range → Or go wood-fired — the traditional barrel There is a reason barrel saunas have chimneys. A wood stove gives you the crackle, the smell and the slow build that no electric element reproduces, and it needs no power at all. Our Harvia M series wood-burning set comes complete with the chimney and stones included — nothing else to source. Our fitters install it and check the flue on the day. Or choose an electric heater The simplest option if you already have power at the sauna. Our Harvia Wall is black steel with a full 20 kg stone capacity for softer, steadier löyly, integrated controls and a 2-year warranty. Harvia Wall 8 kW Rated 7–12 m³ — the sensible default for an 8.4 m³ barrel. Harvia Wall 6 kW Rated 5–8 m³. Workable if the barrel is sheltered and you are not in a hurry, but the 8 kW is the better match here. No heater — cabin only Supply-only. Choose this if you already have a heater, or you want something we do not list. Not sure which? Ask us. Output depends on your timber choice, how exposed the garden is and how often you will
