2022 Aalto Tinto Ribera del Duero
Aalto was created in 1999 by Javier Zaccagnini (former president of the Ribera del Duero DO) and Mariano GarcÃa (legendary winemaker at Vega Sicilia for 30 years). The project focuses on old-vine Tempranillo from high-altitude vineyards, combining traditional viticulture with modern winemaking. Grapes are sourced from ancient vines across multiple villages, aged in French oak. The 2022 vintage is recent, offering fresh fruit with excellent structure. Black cherry, blackberry and cassis with dark chocolate, cedar and graphite. Full bodied with concentrated fruit and firm, fine-grained tannins. There`s power and density here but also elegance and precision. Velvety texture with grip and mineral backbone. Layers of complexity with liquorice, spice and earthy notes. Long, intense finish. Decant for at least an hour if drinking now, preferably longer. Still quite youthful and will benefit from air. Pairs excellently with grilled steaks, roast lamb, game, or aged hard cheeses. Serve around 16-18°C. Drinking well now but built to age beautifully over 15-20 years.
