A beautiful introduction to the wines of Sandhi and indeed the fresh, cool climate Chardonnay of the central coast. This strikes the perfect balance between Californian sunshine and the costal chillfound in this windswept section of the Pacific coast. Lots of citrus and ripe stone fruit on the attack, followed by undertones of baked bread, cream and spice. Mineral and luxuriously silky and soft with bright acidity and a long, uplifting finish. Sandhi Wines are based in California’s Santa Barbara County, specialising in elegant, terroir-driven Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Founded in 2010 by world renowned sommelier Rajat Parr, winemaker Sashi Moorman, and Charles Banks, Sandhi focuses on cool-climate vineyards, particularly in the Sta. Rita Hills AVA. Their wines are known for finesse, purity, and balance - eschewing excessive ripeness and oak in favour of restraint and site expression. Organic and sustainable farming practices are central to their philosophy, with minimal intervention in the cellar to let the vineyard speak. Sandhi sources fruit from exceptional vineyards like Sanford & Benedict and Bentrock, showcasing the nuanced, mineral-driven character of the region. Their Chardonnays are taut and textured, while the Pinots are perfumed, earthy, and precise. Sandhi has played a key role in redefining California wine, offering a fresher, more nuanced alternative to richer, riper styles - appealing to sommeliers, collectors, and Burgundy lovers alike.
