Pecorino 'Collecivetta' DOP 2024 - Pasetti
Pecorino Collecivetta DOP, why we love it and why you'll love it too We love Pecorino Collecivetta because it represents a story of revival and dedication. The Pasetti family rescued this ancient grape variety from near extinction. Their passion for preserving Abruzzos winemaking heritage brought Pecorino back to life. The result is a wine that truly captures the regions essence. What makes Pecorino Collecivetta unique? It balances vibrant freshness with refined complexity. With citrus and floral notes, it offers crisp acidity and a harmonious body. This versatility means its perfect when enjoyed young for its lively character or aged for added depth. If youre seeking a wine that tells a story and delights with flavour, this is an excellent choice. Pasetti The Pasetti winerys history begins in the Bourbon era, when Silvestro Pasetti purchased land and planted vineyards. His son, Rocco, carried on his fathers vision. He faced and overcame the phylloxera plague, ensuring the family legacy endured. Today, Mimmo runs the winery. He carefully preserves Abruzzos winemaking traditions, while also embracing innovation. His eldest daughter, Francesca, has red hair, a feature that connects her to both Madame Rachele and Francos mother. The Testarossa wine line, named in tribute to these women, has become the winerys flagship brand. All of Pasettis wines are crafted within the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park, an area that embodies the connection between the land and local grape varieties. The Testarossa red comes from Montepulciano dAbruzzo grapes, while other wines are made using Trebbiano dAbruzzo, Pecorino, and Passerina varieties. Additionally, Pasetti produces a sweet white wine from Moscatello di Castiglione grapes, an ancient variety once nearly lost. While many winemakers chose international varieties like Cabernet, Merlot, and Chardonnay, Mimmo believed native grapes would thrive in the right soil. His belief led him to revive Pecorino, an ancient grape variety. This decision proved successful, and today, Pecorino wine offers immense potential for the entire Abruzzo wine community. Viva lAbruzzo! Pecorino The Pecorino grape may share its name with a famous cheese, but its origins are rooted in an entirely different story. The name comes from the shepherds who enjoyed snacking on these grapes while tending to their flocks in the valleys. By the mid-20th century, Pecorino was thought to be extinct. However, in the early 1980s, a local producer found an old vineyard with Pecorino vines and began propagating them, sparking its remarkable revival. This grape stands out for its high sugar content and its ability to reflect the terroir with exceptional authenticity. Pecorino is both delicate and expressive, demanding the care of a patient and skilled winemaker. It offers versatility, as it can be enjoyed young for its fresh and approachable character or aged to reveal greater complexity. The finest Pecorino wines hail from the Abruzzo and Marche regions in central Italy, with the DOCG Offida designation producing some of the most celebrated examples. Pecorino thrives in fertile soils with adequate water availability, producing wines with vibrant citrus notes, refreshing acidity, a well-balanced structure, and a lingering finish.
