The Penfolds BIN 2 Shiraz Mataro 2020 is an expressive Australian red wine that combines the great tradition of the Penfolds winery with the typical characteristics of two grape varieties: Shiraz and Mataro (also known as Mourvedre). The BIN 2 was first vinified in 1960, when Shiraz wines were still considered "too strong" and were expected to gain structure and spice with the addition of Mataro. Today, it is one of the classics in the Penfolds portfolio and delights wine lovers worldwide with its complex, spicy-fruity profile. The vines grow in select vineyards in South Australia, where calcareous soils and the Mediterranean climate with warm days and cool nights provide ideal ripening conditions. The BIN 2 2020 exhibits the typical power of Shiraz, complemented by the rustic spice and earthy depth of Mataro. The wine is aged in a combination of French and American oak barrels, giving it additional elegance, structure, and subtle roasted aromas. With an alcohol content of 14.5%, it is powerful yet balanced.
