Bassermann-Jordan 2022 Jesuitengarten Riesling Grand Cru dry | The Wine Barn (1x75cl)
"On basalt volcanic soil with high iron content 'so more mineral, salty, vertical'.And it tastes like green apricots dipped in brine. Something a little formidable, but also top notes of white flowers. Long, reverberating, mouth-watering and incredible concentration."Tasted by Tamlyn Currin, wine writer for Jancis Robinson17.5/20 Vineyard: Situated on the outskirts of Forst, in the direct vicinity of Kirchenstück and Ungeheuer, the Jesuitengarten is one of the best vineyards in the Palateinate due to its mineral content. The site is famous for its fine and elegant wines with high complexity. The name goes back to the possissions of the former Jesuit monastery of Neustadt. In 1792 the Jordan family bought the vineyard. The parcel, which is located in the original part of the Jesuitengarten, was selectively harvested to obtain only perfectly ripened grapes. Wine:These were gently pressed and vinified separately. 50% of the grapes were vinified in traditional oak the rest in stainless steel tanks. Both parts were left on the lees sfter fermentation until bottling. Finely contoured aromas with herbaceous-ethereal notes in conjuction combined with a certain smokiness meet here in the nose. With a little air, the fruity components gain in importance and these are increased aromas of stone fruit and exotic fruit. On the palate very sparse and taut with fine tannin and acid structure. A wine with much power, which will show its full potential in a few years and requires patience until then. In terms of food pairings, the acidity of this GG's both a combination with hearty sauces and dark meat sauces and dark meat, but also exitic dishes with ginger and lime are well accompanied by the Jesuitengarten GG. Soil: Sandy clay with lime, sandy loam with limestone debris. High concentration of basalt weathering in places. Alcohol: 12,5% vol. Res. sugar: 1,4 g/l Acidity: 6,3 g/l
