The Old Barco De Cargas XO Gran Reserva is an elegant premium rum that reflects the long tradition of Caribbean rum culture. Sugar cane and rum were among the most important export goods shipped from the West Indies to Europe. This rum draws on this historical heritage and combines it with modern aging techniques. The Old Barco De Cargas matured for many years in American white oak barrels previously used for bourbon aging. This barrel aging gives it a distinctive depth and enriches its aroma profile with a delicate syrupy sweetness and pronounced vanilla notes. Bottled at 40% ABV, it presents itself as a particularly mild and harmonious rum with intense aromas. Its character is characterized by notes of molasses, dark chocolate, cinnamon, and vanilla, clearly distinguishing it from classic standard bottlings. As an XO Gran Reserva, it stands for long maturation times and the balance between sweetness, spice, and velvety softness – a rum that impresses both neat and in combination.
