Meyer-Näkel 2022 Walporzheim Kräuterberg Spätburgunder Grand Cru is a dry wine from the Ahr valley. The vineyard, located in Walporzheim, is known for its steep hillsides and terraced vineyards, which contribute to its reputation as one of the best in the region. The name of the vineyard side dates back to the Romans, who cultivated wine and herbs in the Kräuterberg due to its favorable climatic conditions. The soil consists mainly of slate and greywacke decomposition stone, creating a nearly Mediterranean microclimate. The wines are powerful and rich in bouquet, with a typical herb aroma. This wine is made from old vines, using sustainable vineyard work, consistent yield reduction, and careful hand-picking. The grapes are gently transported to the winery in small boxes, undergoing spontaneous fermentation and 2 days of maceration time on the mash. It is aged in barrique (70% new wood content) on the fine yeast for 18 months, followed by 6 months of additional aging. The wine is available in a 75cl size and is suitable for both men and women.
