Oh, how the mighty have fallen! Ghostface Killah's "Ironman" is a hot mess of an album, stuck in the past and desperately clinging onto a time when Wu-Tang Clan ruled the hip-hop world. The production is as dated as a pair of Velcro shoes, with cheesy samples and lacklustre beats that would make even the most die-hard Wu-Tang fan cringe. Ghostface himself seems to be sleepwalking through his verses, lacking the fiery passion and razor-sharp lyricism that made him a force to be reckoned with in his heyday. His flow is tepid at best, and his rhymes feel like they were written in a hurry on the back of a napkin. The guest appearances on the album do little to elevate it, with uninspired verses from the likes of Raekwon and Cappadonna failing to inject any life into the proceedings. Even RZA's production wizardry can't save this sinking ship, with his beats feeling more like recycled leftovers than fresh creations. In short, "Ironman" is a sad reminder of what once was, a shadow of Ghostface Killah's former glory. If you're looking for a Wu-Tang fix, you'd be better off dusting off your old CDs and reliving the glory days. As for this album, it's best left buried in the past where it belongs.
