Ah, Another day, another compilation album attempting to capture the essence of a specific era in music. "While No One Was Looking - Toasting 20" is a valiant effort to dive into the depths of 20 tracks that have flown under the radar over the years. The album kicks off with a nostalgic bang, with The Go-Betweens' "Bye Bye Pride" setting the tone for what's to come. From the jangly guitars of The Wedding Present to the ethereal vocals of Saint Etienne, this album is a rollercoaster of emotions and styles. One standout track is The Auteurs' "Lenny Valentino," with its infectious melody and sardonic lyrics that perfectly encapsulate the Britpop era. Meanwhile, Stereolab's "Lo Boob Oscillator" serves as a reminder of the experimental sounds that were bubbling under the surface in the '90s.
