FERNANDO DE LUCA Hurlebusch: Harpsichord Music 4.5/10 Fernando De Luca's latest album, "Hurlebusch: Harpsichord Music," is certainly a curious piece of work. The album pushes the boundaries of the harpsichord genre, blending classical techniques with a modern twist that is both intriguing and, at times, baffling. The opening track, "Baroque Dreams," sets the tone for the rest of the album with its intricate melodies and complex harmonies. De Luca's virtuosity on the harpsichord is undeniable, but at times it feels like he's trying too hard to impress, sacrificing emotion for technical flair. Tracks like "Sonata in G Minor" and "Rondeau in D Major" showcase De Luca's skill as a composer, but they lack the emotional depth that truly sets great music apart. It's as if De Luca is more focused on showing off his technical prowess than creating something truly meaningful. That being said, there are moments of brilliance on "Hurlebusch: Harpsichord Music." The haunting beauty of "Adagio in E Major" and the playful charm of "Gigue in A Minor" show glimpses of De Luca's true potential as an artist. In the end, "Hurlebusch: Harpsichord Music" is a mixed bag. While De Luca's technical skill is impressive, the album ultimately falls short in terms of emotional impact.
