Ah, New York City, the city that never sleeps. And apparently, the city that never stops churning out cheesy 70s pop music. The latest offering from the nostalgically named band, Im Doing Fine Now, is a mixed bag of disco beats and soulful melodies that will leave you feeling like you've just stepped out of a time machine. From the opening track, "Big Apple Boogie," you can tell that this album is going to be a journey back to a simpler time when bell bottoms were in and Studio 54 was the place to be. The lead singer's smooth vocals glide effortlessly over the funky bass lines and shimmering guitars, transporting you back to the glamorous days of New York in the 70s. But as the album progresses, you start to realise that maybe this nostalgia trip is wearing a bit thin. Tracks like "Subway Serenade" and "Taxi Cab Jam" feel more like cheap imitations of the classics rather than inspired reinterpretations. And don't even get me started on the cringe-worthy lyrics of "Empire State of Mindless Love." Overall, New York City Im Doing Fine Now is a fun listen for a retro-themed party, but don't expect anything groundbreaking here. If you're looking for innovative music that pushes boundaries, you're better off looking elsewhere. But if you're in the mood for some throwback tunes that will transport you back to the disco era, then this might just be the album for you. Just don't blame us if you start craving a slice of greasy pizza and a ride in a yellow cab afterwards.
