Ah, Matchbox Twenty, the band that's been making dad-rock cool since the '90s. Their latest album, Where The Light Goes, is a mixed bag of nostalgic charm and questionable decision-making. The opening track, "Turn It Up", sets the tone for the album with its energetic guitars and catchy hooks. It's the kind of song that makes you want to roll down the car windows and sing along at the top of your lungs. But then things take a turn for the worse with "Love To Hate You", a cringe-worthy attempt at a radio-friendly pop ballad that falls flat on its face. However, just when you think all hope is lost, Matchbox Twenty bounce back with "Lost and Found", a soulful track that showcases frontman Rob Thomas' impressive vocals. It's the kind of song that makes you want to light some candles, pour a glass of red wine and contemplate the meaning of life. Overall, Where The Light Goes is a mixed bag of hits and misses. While Matchbox Twenty's signature sound is still present, it feels like they're stuck in a time warp, unable to break free from their '90s roots. But hey, if you're a fan of cheesy rock anthems and heartfelt ballads, then this album is sure to hit the spot. Just don't expect anything ground-breaking or innovative.
